Several petroleum depot owners and marketers in Nigeria have increased their ex-depot petrol prices amid reports of a planned shutdown of the Dangote Refinery’s petrol unit for maintenance and upgrades.
Checks conducted on Saturday revealed that major depots, including Ranoil, Optima, and AYM Shafa, are now selling petrol at around N800 per litre, up from previous prices of N740–N780. Dangote and Aiteo depots reportedly sold petrol at N702 and N740 per litre, respectively.
The price adjustments are linked to the refinery’s planned turnaround maintenance. Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industries, explained that “in most departments, our production levels have gone beyond 100 percent. We just need to remove constraints to raise overall output,” according to Platts (S&P Global).
At the retail level, petrol prices ranged between N739 and N910 per litre at major filling stations across the country as of Saturday afternoon.
This development signals potential upward pressure on fuel prices nationwide in the coming weeks as maintenance activities take effect.
