The Para-Mallam Peace Foundation has condemned the recent killings in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and other parts of Plateau State, describing the incidents as tragic and unacceptable.

In a public statement issued on February 27, 2026, the Foundation expressed deep sorrow over the attacks on innocent residents in Dorowa Babuje community on Sunday, February 22, and the subsequent reprisal attack in the Nding axis on Monday, February 23. According to the statement, about 14 lives were lost in the two incidents.

The Foundation extended its condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities, stressing that every life lost represents a person created with dignity and worth.

It unequivocally condemned both the initial assault and the retaliatory violence that followed, warning that cyclical attacks threaten the long-term peace and unity of Plateau communities. The group called for calm and unity, particularly as Muslims and Christians observe the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent.

Quoting American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., the statement noted that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” urging citizens to seek justice through lawful and peaceful means rather than revenge.

The Foundation also called on security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted and justice is served, emphasizing that retaliation against innocent travellers is both barbaric and dangerous.

While commending the Plateau State Government, security agencies, and religious and community leaders for their swift response in de-escalating tensions, the group acknowledged the behind-the-scenes efforts of Muslim and Christian leaders working to prevent further violence.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, The Revd Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, and sustained peacebuilding initiatives rooted in justice and shared humanity.

He also cautioned residents against using social media to spread hate, fear, or incitement, urging unity to resist forces that benefit from division and violence.

The Foundation concluded by calling on citizens to choose peace over provocation and to work collectively toward a stable and harmonious Plateau State.
