Residents of Anambra State have expressed shock after reports emerged that ₦100 million was allegedly transferred from the state government’s account to Victor Egbetokun, reportedly the son of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

According to Sahara Reporters, the funds were moved in four tranches of ₦25 million each. Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the transfer occurred, adding that the former IGP’s son was advised to instruct his bank to reverse the funds, which was immediately done.

Despite the reversal, residents and commentators have questioned the state’s financial oversight. Public affairs analyst Kingsley Ubani called the incident “an indictment on Professor Chukwuma Soludo” and demanded clarity on who authorised the transfer and why. Another resident, Peter Ndukaike, expressed concern over the state government’s silence since the matter surfaced.

Journalist Fisayo Soyombo highlighted public anger on social media, noting that funds from a security vote had mistakenly landed in the account of a high-profile individual, rather than an ordinary citizen.

Reacting, the governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, insisted that the transfer was not connected to the Anambra State Government, describing it as an honest error that had been reversed months ago. He reaffirmed Gov. Soludo’s financial prudence, stating the matter had been resolved.

The episode continues to fuel debate about transparency and oversight in the management of state finances.
