The Obidient Movement has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Adekunle Mustapha, popularly known as Sego, after he was caught on video allegedly threatening to kill anyone who votes against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, the movement condemned Sego’s remarks, describing them as part of a long-standing pattern of political intimidation and violence in Lagos State.
“The attention of the Obidient Movement has been drawn to comments, well captured on video, by the Lagos State Chairman of the NURTW, Adekunle Mustapha, aka Sego,” the statement read. “In summary, the said Sego, who masquerades as a Labour Union leader, threatened to kill anyone who votes against the APC in Lagos during the next elections scheduled for 2027.”
The movement recalled the violent attacks allegedly carried out by NURTW members and political thugs during the 2023 general elections, which targeted supporters of the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, resulting in deaths and injuries across parts of Lagos.
“There is no doubt that these threats and acts of murder and brigandage are desperate attempts engineered by the APC, realizing that they do not have the voting strength nor popular support to win any free and fair election in Lagos State,” Yunusa stated.
He accused the ruling party of fostering a culture of intimidation and violence, saying such threats are “symptomatic of a failed political structure” that fears open competition.
The Obidient Movement urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Military, and other security agencies to immediately arrest and prosecute Sego and others allegedly involved in politically motivated violence and intimidation.
“Over the years, acts of murder, thuggery, political violence, extortion, and other criminal activities have continued to be associated with the NURTW in Lagos. We therefore call on the authorities to act swiftly and decisively to prevent further threats to Nigeria’s democracy,” Yunusa said.
He also drew the attention of the international community to the video, describing Sego’s threat as a potential crime against humanity and a threat to national peace.
“We are putting the international community on notice of these crimes and those legally responsible, by their actions or inactions,” the statement added.
