NUJ Correspondents, Joint Task Force Lead Peace Walk in Jos to Promote Unity Ahead of Yuletide

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force – Operation Enduring Peace, successfully organized a Peace Walk to promote harmony, tolerance, and calm during the festive season.

The event, themed “Towards a Peaceful Yuletide,” took place on December 6, 2025, commencing from Old Airport Junction and proceeding through Tudun Wada to Hill Station, attracting an impressive turnout of residents, journalists, and community leaders.

Promoting Peace and Stability

Mr. Ibrahim Kallamu, Secretary of the Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association, praised the initiative, saying it reflected the collective resolve of Plateau residents to uphold peace. He stressed that stability is essential for tourism, business growth, and the state’s overall development, urging media practitioners to combat fake news and ensure the publication of verified information to attract investors and visitors.

“The Peace Walk demonstrates that Plateau is a welcoming and safe environment for everyone,” Kallamu said.

NUJ Leadership Encourages Responsible Journalism

Mr. Polycarp Auta, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, explained that the walk builds on previous initiatives by the chapel. He thanked the Joint Task Force and other security agencies for their support and emphasized that the exercise goes beyond reporting security issues, aiming to actively promote peaceful coexistence.

“We encourage citizens to live in peace, demonstrate tolerance, and show love for one another, especially during the Christmas season,” Auta said, appreciating participants for their commitment and praying for their safe return.

Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, Chairperson of the NUJ, called on journalists and bloggers to remain committed to promoting peace through responsible reporting. She urged media practitioners to focus on content that fosters unity, progress, and harmonious living, expressing hope for a peaceful Christmas and New Year across Plateau State.

Security and Community Leaders Commend the Initiative

Representing Brigadier General G. G. Shipi, Commander of Operation Rainbow, CSP Dennis Babale lauded the Correspondents’ Chapel for organizing the walk, describing it as a vital step for community wellbeing.

Mr. Bali Nanmak, Executive Director of the Plateau Peace Practitioners Network, emphasized that unity is crucial beyond politics, religion, or other divides. Similarly, Mr. Gad Shamaki, a civil society leader, commended the active participation of children, youth, government officials, and the public, praising journalists from both Eritrea and Nigeria for amplifying the message.

ASC Nanko Rimvyok, representing State Commandant Musa Ishaku of the NSCDC, reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and maintaining peace throughout the state.

Collective Commitment to Harmony

The Peace Walk successfully highlighted the collaborative efforts of media, security agencies, civil society, and the public in fostering tolerance, harmony, and unity across Plateau State during the yuletide season. It served as a reminder that peace is a shared responsibility, and that sustained collaboration is key to ensuring safe and joyous festive celebrations for all residents.
