NSCDC Arrests 12 Suspected Illegal Immigrants in Kwara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has apprehended 12 suspected illegal immigrants in Ilorin.

The corps’ spokesperson, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, said in a statement on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, that the suspects, all reportedly from Mali, were arrested in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin on Sunday, February 22, around 10:00 pm following a tip-off from concerned members of the public.

“The suspects, identified as Umar Sangari (25), Bubu Bill (43), Modibo Keita (26), Mahmud Jaalo (22), Bakare Sumonu (20), Saiku Dubia (28), Panda Aboubacar (32), Malle Siaka (24), Seku Barry (34), Lamine Bakou (27), Baye Bolly (24), and Zuman Traore (26), were occupying a two-bedroom apartment rented through a local agent under suspicious circumstances,” the statement read.

Items recovered from the premises included nine mobile phones, two international passports, identification cards, a wristwatch, keys, and cash.

Commandant Bodinga said the command has launched an in-depth investigation to determine the circumstances of their stay in the state and whether any criminal links exist. He added that, upon conclusion, the suspects will be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further action in line with immigration laws.

The commandant also stressed that the arrests come amid rising security concerns in the state and reassured residents that the NSCDC remains committed to protecting lives and property while curbing criminal activity.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of communities across Kwara State.
