The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has distanced itself from a planned protest reportedly organized by activist Omoyele Sowore and his associates.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday at the Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan, the association’s president, Olushola Oladoja, said NANS had no connection whatsoever with the planned demonstration.
Oladoja warned Nigerian students across the country not to allow themselves to be deceived or used by “selfish and politically motivated individuals.”
He also dismissed reports linking NANS to the proposed #FreeNnamdiKanu protest scheduled for October 20, describing them as false, misleading, and mischievous.
Speaking alongside zonal and campus leaders of the association, the president said the press conference was convened to set the record straight and protect the integrity of NANS from political interference.
“We wish to state categorically and unequivocally that NANS is not, and will not be, part of any protest organised or influenced by Sowore or any other politically motivated group or individual,” Oladoja stated.
“The entire claim is false, mischievous, and designed to drag the name of our noble Association into political controversies that do not align with our mandate as a student body,” he added.
