The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the death of its Managing Director/Chief Executive, Dr. Ali Nuhu.

The rumours followed a viral video posted by a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, who claimed that the celebrated actor and filmmaker had died. Another post also alleged he was involved in a fatal car accident.

In a statement issued Monday evening, the NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, described the reports as “false, malicious, and injurious,” stressing that Dr. Nuhu is alive and actively discharging his official duties.

“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive, being orchestrated within the social media space. We wish to officially and unambiguously inform the general public that the reports, including videos laced with his pictures, are not only malicious but false in their entirety,” the statement read.

Etuk reaffirmed that Dr. Nuhu, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024, remains “alive, well, and fully carrying out the responsibilities of the office.”

The Corporation further cautioned those responsible for spreading the misinformation, warning of consequences for their actions.

“NFC wishes to draw the attention of perpetrators of these uncouth and dastardly acts, including their sponsors, to the dire and unmistakable consequences of their actions, no matter how innocuous their intent may appear,” the statement continued.

It added that appropriate measures are already being taken to address the spread of such falsehoods.

While appreciating the concern expressed by members of the public, stakeholders, and fans of the veteran filmmaker, the NFC urged the public to disregard the rumour in its entirety.
