The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public to the circulation of counterfeit Cialis 20mg tablets in Nigeria.

According to the agency, the fake version of the popular erectile dysfunction drug was discovered during routine market surveillance by the product’s marketing authorization holder (MAH) representatives in Abuja.

NAFDAC said the counterfeit tablets are being sold openly in markets at an average price of ₦8,000 per pack, far below the genuine product, which retails for about ₦55,000 per pack. Upon examination, the agency noted that the fake version does not match the authentic Cialis 20mg packaging or quality standards.

“Genuine Cialis 20mg tablet contains tadalafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH),” the agency stated.

NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals and consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected sale or distribution of substandard or falsified medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office. Reports can also be made through the agency’s toll-free line 0800-162-3322 or via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
