The Nigerian military has recorded a major operational breakthrough with the killing of a senior Boko Haram terrorist commander during ongoing clearance operations in the North-East.

Reliable military sources disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that one of the insurgents neutralised was Abu Khalid, identified as the second-in-command of the Boko Haram faction operating within the Sambisa Forest.

According to the sources, Abu Khalid was a key figure in the group’s command and control structure, and his death is considered a significant setback to terrorist activities in the notorious enclave.

The military said the slain commander played a critical role in coordinating attacks, overseeing logistics, and directing the movement of fighters across parts of the North-East, making his elimination a major boost to counter-terrorism efforts.

It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the ongoing operations until all terrorist elements are completely eliminated, while calling on remaining insurgents to lay down their arms and embrace peace.
