Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has criticised President Donald Trump over recent military strikes on Iran, accusing him of drawing the United States into what she described as a risky and unnecessary conflict.

Harris made her stance known in a statement released Saturday and shared on X, signalling what analysts view as a sharp escalation in domestic political opposition to the administration’s military actions.

The former Vice President, who served from 2021 to 2025, argued that the strikes amount to a regime-change strategy pursued without clear public backing.

“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” she said, adding that she opposed any attempt to pursue regime change in Iran and warning that U.S. troops were being placed at risk in what she termed a “war of choice.”

Harris also questioned the President’s leadership and consistency, accusing him of contradicting earlier campaign pledges to avoid new conflicts.

“What we are witnessing is not strength. It is recklessness dressed up as resolve,” she said. “During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to end wars rather than start them.”

Beyond policy concerns, Harris raised constitutional questions, stressing that the President requires congressional authorisation to enter a war. She urged lawmakers to exercise oversight powers to prevent further escalation and ensure legal clarity over the use of force.

She further warned of the potential human and geopolitical costs of prolonged conflict, arguing that American troops deserved careful and disciplined leadership in decisions involving war.

As of the time of filing this report, the White House had not issued an official response to her remarks, even as debate intensifies in Washington over the legality and strategic implications of the strikes.
