Col. Fwanje went on to commend the people of the state for the peaceful conduct of the elections and main opposition Party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for being law-abiding and approaching the Court to seek redress over its exclusion from the polls rather than taking laws into their hands.

He however admonished the opposition to put its house in order so as to be able to provide healthy opposition in future elections which is the beauty of Democracy as it will also get to strengthen the same. Saying that lessons must have been learnt from the issue which started from the State High Court and now at the Appeal Court which led to a ruling a night before the elections.

Col. Fwanje said he was also impressed with the overall conduct of the Local Government elections which may not be perfect and went on to commend PLASIEC. He charged those elected to work hard to justify the trust and confidence reposed on them by the electorates by dispensing good governance and providing people-centred leadership as a lot are expected from them.

Recall that State High Court sitting in Jos, had on 29th September 2021 dismissed a suit filed by the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the decision of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), which had excluded the party from participating in the local government council polls.

Furthermore, the PDP went to the Court of Appeal, in Jos, seeking an injunction to stop the conduct of the polls, but the court denied them the request, saying since the tenure of the elected officials at the local government had elapsed, a vacuum cannot be created.

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) went on to conduct the Local Government Elections on Saturday 9th October, in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state with the All Progressive Peoples Congress making a clean sweep at the polls.
