Grammy-winning American singer Ciara has expressed delight at the transformation of Lagos State after arriving in Nigeria to attend the 15th anniversary celebration of Lagos Fashion Week and embark on a cultural tour.
Her visit was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, Jubril Gawat, who announced that she was received by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka.
Gawat wrote on X:
“International superstar, Grammy Award winner, Ciara Princess Wilson (@ciara) is in Lagos, accompanied by the Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka. She will be joining us in Lagos to celebrate our tourism, art, and culture.”
The singer’s itinerary includes appearances at Lagos Fashion Week, visits to key cultural and artistic sites, and engagements with local designers and creatives.
According to Gawat, Ciara’s visit is considered a “homecoming” for the global artist and other creatives who see Lagos as a vibrant hub of innovation and style.
“It’s a homecoming for her and other creatives who see Lagos as home. She would visit different cultural sites in Lagos and also celebrate the successful hosting of the 15th anniversary of Lagos Fashion Week in collaboration with the Lagos State Government,” he said.
Speaking about her return, Ciara noted remarkable improvements in the city’s infrastructure and cleanliness compared to her previous visit.
“I’m so happy to be here and I’m really glad. No, this is not my first time; I know about Lagos,” she said.
“When I used to land, I used to see dirty roads. Now it’s all clean, and it has changed.”
Her remarks have sparked excitement among Nigerians online, with many praising the state government’s efforts to promote Lagos as Africa’s creative and cultural capital.
