The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has accused popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, of unruly conduct toward aviation personnel during a recent domestic flight.
According to a statement issued by FAAN on Wednesday, the incident occurred on August 5 aboard a ValueJet flight at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The musician was allegedly caught drinking from a flask, prompting suspicion from a flight attendant who believed the content was alcohol — a substance prohibited on aircraft in Nigeria.
FAAN said that when the airline’s security officer approached KWAM 1 to verify the flask’s contents, the musician refused to comply and proceeded to pour the liquid — confirmed to be alcohol — on the officer.
“In accordance with international aviation security standards, specifically Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17, liquids exceeding 100ml are not permitted through security screening unless medically necessary and properly declared,” the authority explained.
Despite being informed of these regulations, KWAM 1 reportedly refused to cooperate. The Flight Captain intervened but faced the same resistance. After the boarding process was completed, the Captain ordered the aircraft doors to be shut.
KWAM 1 then allegedly moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, leading to his removal by personnel of the Airport Security (AVSEC) crime unit for further investigation. He was later released.
The fallout from the incident also resulted in the suspension of two ValueJet pilots by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for breaching safety protocols by initiating departure procedures without completing mandatory clearance.
The situation has sparked concerns about passenger conduct and safety procedures at Nigerian airports.
