The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission says it has traced and recovered several government-owned vehicles from former state officials who allegedly failed to return them after leaving office last month.
The development follows the resignation of no fewer than five commissioners after Governor Abba Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress on January 26, 2026.
Chairman of the commission, Sa’idu Yahaya, confirmed the recovery during a telephone interview on Thursday, noting that the exercise was carried out in Kano earlier in the day after former officials ignored directives to return government vehicles issued through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

Among those whose official vehicles were retrieved are former Commissioner for Security, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar (retd); former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso; former Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata; former Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Adams Aliyu Kibiya; and former Commissioner for Special Projects, Nasiru Sani Garo.
Yahaya explained that the commission had initially allowed time for voluntary compliance following formal requests from the state government, but moved to enforce recovery after the directive was not honoured.
He stressed that the action was taken in line with the agency’s mandate to safeguard public assets, noting that government property must be returned immediately once an official leaves office.
According to him, the exercise was not politically motivated but aimed at ensuring accountability and protecting public resources. He added that the commission remains committed to transparency and would continue to act against any unlawful retention or misuse of government property.
