The Kaduna State Police Command has recovered unexploded military-grade bombs and a cache of weapons concealed in a waste consignment transported from Borno State to Kaduna.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the discovery was made on August 2, 2025, following a credible intelligence report.
According to Hassan, the suspicious consignment was traced to a scavenger company located in the Kudandan Industrial Area of Kaduna South Local Government Area.
A specialised team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, led by its commander, swiftly responded to the scene. After a thorough examination, the suspicious items were confirmed to be unexploded ordnance (UXOs).
“The EOD operatives safely evacuated the explosives to a secure location for controlled demolition, in line with safety protocols,” Hassan said.
Additional weapons recovered during the operation included a locally fabricated revolver pistol fully loaded with six rounds, 15 rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, three live cartridges, and other assorted ammunition.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, immediately ordered the sealing of the facility to allow EOD personnel to conduct a comprehensive sweep to ensure no other explosives remained.
The commissioner also issued a strong warning to scavenger companies, urging them to desist from transporting scrap and waste materials from insurgency-prone areas.
He condemned the act as a serious security risk and confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace the origin and intended use of the smuggled explosives.
