Troops of the 3 Division Nigerian Army have recorded a major operational breakthrough against terrorists and other criminal elements during the ongoing Operation BUGUN KARKANDA III in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The operation, aimed at restoring peace and security in vulnerable communities, specifically targeted Mansur Village and surrounding settlements where armed groups had reportedly been threatening residents.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the Division, Lt. Col. Olumide Victor Olukoya, the operation was officially launched by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
The statement said troops carried out a coordinated offensive that enabled them to advance into identified flashpoints and establish control over key locations in the area.
“Troops of 3 Division rapidly advanced into the affected communities and successfully dislodged armed terrorists who attempted to assert control over Mansur Village,” the statement said.
Following the clearance operation, soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle from the terrorists, a development the military said had weakened the operational capability of the criminal elements.
The army further disclosed that troops have since consolidated their positions in the area and intensified both fighting patrols and confidence-building patrols across Alkaleri Local Government Area to sustain security gains and reassure residents.
Military authorities noted that the renewed security operations have disrupted the networks of criminal elements and restored public confidence, enabling residents to gradually return to normal socio-economic activities.
Efforts are also ongoing to stabilise the area and facilitate the safe return of displaced residents to Mansur Village and other affected communities.
The GOC, Major General Oyinlola, commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to sustain the operational momentum, stressing the importance of denying terrorists any freedom of action within the division’s area of responsibility.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to protecting vulnerable communities and ensuring lasting peace and security in the region.
