The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has announced the immediate closure of all basic schools across the state following heightened security concerns. The directive affects Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs), which will shut down from Saturday, 22 November 2025, while all primary and day schools are to close from Monday, 24 November 2025.
According to the Board, the decision is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding pupils, teachers, and school communities in the face of emerging threats. PSUBEB described the move as temporary but necessary to forestall potential risks and reassure residents that the safety of learners remains a top priority.
Parents, guardians, and education stakeholders have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as measures are being put in place. The Board also called on Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators, and community leaders to stay vigilant and support the implementation of the directive.
The announcement comes at a time of rising security incidents across parts of Nigeria, including recent attacks and threats targeting schools and vulnerable communities, prompting governments at various levels to adopt stricter preventive strategies.
