Former House of Representatives member for Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has declared that the crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reached a breaking point, warning that remaining in the party is no longer sustainable for Plateau’s political future.
In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Bagos said ongoing leadership battles at the national level have weakened the PDP to a point where it can no longer guarantee electoral stability or protect the mandates of its candidates.
According to him, unresolved disputes between the Turaki-led and Abdullarm-led factions have left the party without a clear national direction.
“A political party that cannot resolve its own leadership cannot defend the mandate of its candidates,” he said. “The truth is clear: leaving the PDP is no longer speculation — it is an imminent and strategic decision.”
Bagos said Plateau State has already experienced the consequences of a weak party structure, pointing to the legal setbacks that removed several elected PDP officials in 2023.
He described the period as one marked by confusion, lack of coordination, and abandonment, insisting that the failures originated from the party’s instability at the national level.
“Our people suffered for it. Our political stability suffered. And our collective mandate was exposed due to internal disunity,” he said.
“We cannot afford to take Plateau through that same painful experience again — not in 2027.”
Bagos argued that Plateau needs a political platform that is nationally aligned, disciplined, and capable of defending the votes of its candidates.
He warned that sentiments must give way to strategy as the state approaches another crucial election cycle.
“Plateau deserves a platform that is coherent and capable of delivering victory,” he said.
“We must align with a structure that offers stability and national presence — not one trapped in endless internal battles.”
While not declaring his next political move, Bagos made it clear that realignment is underway, saying decisions will be guided strictly by the need to protect Plateau’s interests and ensure a stronger mandate for its people.
He urged PDP leaders to re-examine the party’s current condition in the interest of Plateau’s political future.
“For Plateau, for our people, and for the future, a new political direction is not just necessary — it is inevitable,” he said.
Bagos served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2019 to November 2023.
