A suspected phone snatcher was on Tuesday afternoon killed by an angry mob in Jos, Plateau State.
The incident occurred at the Apata community in Jos North Local Government Area, according to eyewitness accounts.
One of the eyewitnesses, Mathew Paul, told our correspondent that the young man allegedly snatched a victim’s phone at gunpoint before attempting to flee the scene.
“The young man collected someone’s phone this afternoon and fired a shot into the air to scare people away. However, people noticed he was having difficulty handling the gun,” Paul said.
He explained that residents quickly mobilised, chased the suspect, apprehended him and attacked him. By the time security operatives arrived at the scene, the suspect had died from the assault.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not answered as of the time of filing this report.
