Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, the Islamic cleric arrested after the body of Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde was discovered in his residence, has spoken out about the incident.
Yetunde, a final-year Kwara State College of Education student, was reported missing on February 11, a day after she failed to return home. Her dismembered remains were later found in Ballo’s home, alongside fetish items, raising suspicions that this may not have been his first offense.
However, during police questioning, Ballo denied killing Yetunde. He claimed she suffered an asthma attack and died in his home, and in a panic, he decided to dismember her body for easier disposal.
In a recorded confession, he introduced himself: “My name is Mohammed. I’m a Muslim cleric.”
When asked about his education, he responded, “I’m about to gain admission into KWASU.”
Speaking about the victim, he said, “Her name is Hafusa. She was my girlfriend. I met her on Facebook.”
He recounted their last moments together, stating that Yetunde returned from school around 3 p.m. and mentioned she had not eaten. As he left to buy food for her, he claimed she began gasping for breath.
“She had previously told me she was asthmatic,” he added.
According to Ballo, her sudden death left him in shock, and instead of seeking help, he dismembered her body and disposed of it at a public refuse dump.
“I was in shock when she died. So I couldn’t cry out for help,” he continued.
“I dismembered her body and disposed it at the public refuse dump because I couldn’t think of any better way.”
He added: “I have never done this before. This is my first time.”
Recall that Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, went missing on Monday, Feb. 10 and her family reported her missing on Feb. 11.
The police later found her body in the home of Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo. The police added that some fetish items were found in his house, suggesting this may not be his first time.
