IPOB warns Tinubu, DSS of “unimaginable” crisis if anything happens to Nnamdi Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned President Bola Tinubu and the Department of State Services (DSS) that Nigeria could be plunged into an unprecedented crisis if anything untoward happens to the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The warning was issued in a statement signed by IPOB’s spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful.

In the statement, Emma Powerful described Kanu as “priceless,” demanding that the government ensure his health and safety are protected. IPOB insisted Kanu receive proper medical care and demanded his “unconditional” release, saying his wellbeing was “non-negotiable.”

IPOB framed its warning in stark terms, comparing the potential fallout to historic flashpoints and arguing that continued detention or any health crisis involving Kanu could have consequences beyond Nigeria’s borders. The group accused the authorities of playing “reckless” games with his life and said the situation risked igniting widespread unrest.

The statement also appealed to international organisations, human-rights groups and “peace-loving people” worldwide to press the Nigerian government to act before the situation deteriorates further. IPOB warned that continued perceived provocations would leave the government and its foreign backers to face consequences they had not anticipated.

The DSS and the presidency had not issued an immediate response at the time of reporting. Observers say the development will likely attract attention from local and international rights advocates already monitoring Kanu’s detention.
