The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the withdrawal of 11,566 police officers previously assigned to guard Very Important Persons (VIPs), following a directive from the President.
Egbetokun disclosed this on Thursday during a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja, noting that the presidential instruction empowered him to enforce the order fully and without obstruction.
He stated that no VIP is in a position to challenge the recall of their security aides since the directive originated from the highest office in the country.
The IGP urged officers to uphold professionalism and remain dedicated to safeguarding the nation, emphasising the need for continuous vigilance to curb criminal activities nationwide.
Egbetokun added that the Nigeria Police Force will sustain efforts to tackle existing security threats and is working in collaboration with other security agencies to enhance public safety.
