A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former member of the House of Representatives, Komsol Alphonsus Longgap, has called for fairness, transparency, and internal democracy within the party ahead of future primaries in Plateau State.

Longgap, who is aspiring to contest the Plateau South Senatorial Seat in 2027, made the call in a statement addressed to party leaders, stakeholders, and members across the state.

In the statement, the APC stalwart expressed appreciation to the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for what he described as the governor’s commitment to development, peace, and good governance in the state.

He noted that the governor’s leadership has demonstrated dedication to inclusiveness and the strengthening of democratic institutions, adding that many residents of Plateau State remain appreciative of efforts aimed at promoting growth and stability.

Longgap, however, urged party leaders to ensure that the democratic principles of participation and fairness guide the APC’s internal processes, particularly regarding the selection of candidates for elective offices.

According to him, political competition conducted in a transparent and democratic manner strengthens political parties and deepens public confidence in the electoral process.

He cautioned against pressure from interest groups advocating for the adoption of a consensus arrangement in party primaries, stressing that all aspirants should be given a level playing field to present their ideas, track records, and vision to party members.

“Every aspirant who believes in his capacity should have the opportunity to present his achievements and vision before the party electorate so that members can make informed choices,” he stated.

Longgap further appealed to party leadership to resist any form of coercion that could undermine democratic participation within the party.

He also expressed appreciation to the National Chairman of the APC for promoting fairness within the party and commended the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support to the people of Plateau State and efforts toward strengthening democratic governance in the country.

The APC aspirant concluded by urging political leaders to continue listening to the people and allowing them to freely choose their representatives, noting that such an approach remains key to sustaining public trust and strengthening democracy.
