Legendary hip-hop DJ Lord Sear, known for his close collaboration with Eminem, has died at the age of 52.

The news of his passing was confirmed in a tribute shared on his Instagram page, describing him as more than just a radio personality.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lord Sear. He was more than a voice on the radio — he was a force, a friend, and family to so many of us,” the statement read, adding that his legacy in hip hop “runs deep.”

The cause of his death was not disclosed.

Born Steve Watson, Lord Sear was based in New York City and rose to prominence through his work in the hip-hop community, particularly his long association with Eminem.

He joined SiriusXM in the early 2000s where he co-hosted The All Out Show alongside Rude Jude on Eminem’s Shade 45 channel. During the same period, he toured with Eminem as part of the Anger Management Tour.

Lord Sear later hosted his own programme, The Lord Sear Special, also on SiriusXM, which he continued until his death.

Following the announcement, Eminem paid tribute to the late DJ on X, recalling their time together.

“Sear was one of the greatest people to be around. I will never forget how he made me laugh on our tour together,” the rapper wrote, adding that their interviews on Shade 45 were among his favourite moments.

In honour of the late DJ, SiriusXM announced that a special tribute broadcast will air on Shade 45 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
