Chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has pledged ₦2 million to support organisations seeking justice for 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje, who died in 2018 after years of alleged sexual abuse by her guardians.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Baci described Ochanya as “a girl who should have been safe, loved, and protected but was failed by the very people meant to guard her.”

She emphasised that remembering Ochanya goes beyond social media activism, urging for funding, accountability, and community involvement to support other survivors still struggling with similar trauma.

“As I read through her story, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls carry wounds like hers and are still here today, trying to find their way back to wholeness,” she wrote.

Baci explained that the ₦2 million donation would be shared between two credible NGOs working with rape and abuse survivors, to be chosen based on public nominations.

“To support that cause, I’m pledging ₦2,000,000 to organisations working with rape and sexual abuse survivors. I’d love for you to help me choose two trusted NGOs to receive this donation,” she said.

She also encouraged contributions to an ongoing GoFundMe campaign aimed at advancing the legal process, adding that those unable to donate financially could still lend their voices to the cause.

“Every contribution helps move the legal process forward and strengthens the fight for justice. And if you can’t give financially, that’s okay—you can still lend your voice,” she noted.

Baci framed her action as a collective stand for justice and compassion, saying that fighting for Ochanya’s memory means showing up for others enduring similar pain.

“Honouring her memory means doing more than posting hashtags. It means showing up for those who are still here—making sure no one ever feels alone in their pain again,” she added.

Her gesture has since drawn widespread praise online, with many Nigerians commending her transparency and commitment to supporting survivors as the #JusticeForOchanya campaign regains momentum.
