Alexer Pere, the former wife of Nigerian singer Harrysong, has announced that she is temporarily stepping aside from the custody of their two young children, citing emotional and psychological strain.
Alexer made the disclosure in an emotional video shared on her Instagram story on Thursday morning, describing the decision as a painful but necessary step after years of pressure following the breakdown of her marriage.
According to her, she has been the primary caregiver to the children since their separation, noting that the children have lived with her, attended school from her residence, and only saw their father occasionally over the past two years.
She alleged that the arrangement had become increasingly difficult, accusing Harrysong of repeatedly showing up at her home without prior notice and creating tension that disrupted her peace of mind.
Alexer said the constant stress had taken a heavy emotional toll on her, making it difficult to cope any longer. She also revealed that there are allegations contained in a petition reportedly filed by the singer, which she said she would address at a later time.
Explaining her decision, Alexer stressed that temporarily handing over custody does not mean she has abandoned her children. She said she intends to return for them once she is in a better emotional state.
She further expressed concern about the children’s welfare, claiming their father is often unavailable and that they may be left in the care of domestic workers despite their young ages.
Alexer disclosed that she previously lived in Asaba but relocated to Lagos after receiving threats that made her feel unsafe. She maintained that her decision was not an act of weakness but a step taken to protect her mental health and ensure her survival.
Appealing for the safety of her children, she noted that no mother willingly chooses to be separated from her children but said she felt she had exhausted all other options. She reassured the public that her bond with her children remains strong and that she would always return to be part of their lives.
In January 2024, Harrysong had publicly spoken about difficulties in his marriage and appealed for privacy. Shortly after, Alexer made a social media post suggesting that the relationship had ended.
The couple married in March 2021 and have two children together, aged four and three.
