Residents of Gwarandok in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State have called on Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to intervene in the completion of the long-abandoned Gwarandok–Namua Junction road, warning that the upcoming rainy season could worsen the situation.

The road, a crucial link connecting the community to Namua Junction, has been left in disrepair for over a year, causing daily hardships and leaving residents isolated. The stalled project has also resulted in severe water scarcity, as heavy-duty water pipes removed by the Plateau State Water Board during the initial construction have yet to be replaced.

Speaking to reporters, Mrs. Grace Ajang lamented, “What began as a promising infrastructure project has devolved into a symbol of neglect. Mothers carry heavy loads of water on their heads, children miss school to fetch water, and the elderly suffer in silence. Our men complain about damage to their vehicles, and erosion has turned parts of the road into muddy quagmires.”

She added, “Our Governor is a listening leader, and we plead that he comes to our rescue. As the rainy season begins, our fears are amplified—the road is at risk of becoming impassable, heightening both hardship and security risks for our community.”

Another resident, Mr. Success Benjamin, urged the state government to act swiftly. “Governor Mutfwang, we are not asking for miracles, just the completion of what was started. We also appeal that our water pipes be reinstated to end the scarcity plaguing us, and reliable contractors be mobilized before the rains turn this road into a death trap.”

The residents acknowledged the administration’s efforts in reviving other abandoned projects across the state, expressing hope that Gwarandok will receive similar attention.

Efforts to reach the Commissioner for Urban Development for comments on the stalled project were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
