Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri faced a public backlash on Tuesday as aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters loudly booed and rejected him during a political gathering in Ganye Local Government Area.
The governor, returning to the state after nearly two weeks away attending the graduation of the son of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was met with hostility while addressing the gathering and inspecting projects executed by the Ganye Local Government Council.
A viral video from the event captured voices chanting, “We are not with you! We reject you and your party!” as Fintiri struggled to control the crowd. Some hecklers vowed they would no longer support the PDP.
Visibly rattled, Governor Fintiri fired back at the critics, saying, “You are also rejected. Who even asked for your support in the first place? Nobody has the monopoly of being troublesome; anyone can wear the cap.”
The confrontation comes amid growing dissatisfaction over public spending priorities and worsening insecurity in the state, particularly in Madagali Local Government Area, Fintiri’s home LGA. Recent reports indicate that Boko Haram terrorists abducted eight members of a family in Pallam community, Madagali, following the killing and abduction of forest guards in Kirchinga.
Some prominent PDP figures present at the Ganye event privately described the public rejection as a warning for upcoming elections. “The governor has built a castle of self-adoration around himself, surrounded by praise singers who shield him from reality. Today, reality caught up with him. He is clearly losing ground,” one insider said.
Another commented, “What happened in Ganye is a litmus test of what is coming. I hope he now understands that the people are no longer with him.”
