Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, popularly known as GoodGirl LA, has opened up about her strained relationship with her father, revealing that he once disowned her for refusing to pursue formal education.
In an interview with Hip TV, the “Faraway” crooner reflected on her early struggles and the choices that shaped her career, describing her decision to prioritize music over schooling as the only major regret of her life.
“I have never regretted not completing school. I actually wish I never went to school,” she said. “I wish I left home earlier. That’s my only regret. I wish I never wrote JAMB. I wish I ran away when my dad was forcing me to write JAMB. I wish I started chasing my dreams earlier. But I was 16 and unsure of what to do. When I was around 17 or 18, I got clarity and absconded from home.”
GoodGirl LA recounted that her father’s disappointment deepened when she informed her parents she was no longer interested in schooling. “When I told my parents that I wasn’t interested in going to school anymore, my dad asked me to leave his house. It was crazy. At one point, he even disowned me. Then, I left home,” she revealed.
The singer, however, shared that her family later reconciled with her after she began gaining recognition in the music industry.
