A four-month-old baby, Mirabels, who survived a deadly attack that claimed the lives of her parents and grandfather in Plateau State, is reported to be making steady recovery.

Gunmen had attacked commuters on Friday night, January 16, 2026, at about 10 p.m., at a bridge linking the Gassa and Nding communities in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

Among those killed in the attack were a Christian missionary, Rev. Bulus Madaki, his daughter and his son-in-law. The couple’s four-month-old child, Mirabels, sustained injuries during the incident but survived.

A community leader, George Lambert, who visited the infant at the hospital, disclosed that the attackers had assumed the baby was dead after she lost consciousness during the attack.

He said the child is responding to treatment and showing signs of recovery, describing her survival as remarkable.

Lambert also confirmed that Rev. Madaki, his daughter and son-in-law were laid to rest on Tuesday, amid grief from family members and the community.

The incident has once again heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, particularly attacks on commuters and rural communities.
