Former Super Eagles Midfielder Henry Nwosu Dies at 62

Former Henry Nwosu, a celebrated midfielder for the Super Eagles, has died at the age of 62.

The news was confirmed by his former teammate, Segun Odegbami, on social media on Saturday. Nwosu passed away at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, after spending five days in intensive care.

“After five days in hospital battling for his life, the one I call ‘Youngest Millionaire’ passed on at 4:00 am this morning… It is with deep pain in my heart that I have to be the conveyor of the news of the death of Henry Nwosu, MON. May he rest peacefully with our Creator in Heaven,” Odegbami wrote.

Nwosu was part of the historic 1980 Africa Cup of Nations squad, hosted in Lagos, where Nigeria’s national team, then known as the Green Eagles, won their first continental title on home soil. He was the youngest member of the squad and was widely celebrated for his contributions to Nigeria’s triumph in the tournament.
