Former Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Shehu Usman Bala, has called for unity, patience, and prayers for the nation as Muslims across Nigeria celebrate Sallah. Speaking in an interview on Monday, Bala emphasized the lessons learned during the Ramadan fasting period and their importance in fostering national development.
Call for National Unity and Development Bala expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of Ramadan, highlighting the spiritual benefits of the period, particularly in forgiveness and prayers for national unity. He urged citizens to apply these lessons in nation-building and sustainable development.
“We thank God for seeing us through this Ramadan. The lessons learned, particularly those of forgiveness and unity, should serve as catalysts for national development,” he stated. “We must continue to pray for our nation, especially in this transitional period, and exercise patience as government policies unfold.”
Support for Government Policies and Communication Gap Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts towards national development, Bala noted that while the administration has introduced several beneficial policies, there is a gap in public awareness and information dissemination.
“Some policies by President Tinubu’s administration are very good, but there is a lack of proper awareness,” Bala observed. “I urge those in power to improve communication so that Nigerians understand and support these initiatives.”
Condemnation of Violence in Edo State Addressing the recent violent incident in Edo State, Bala strongly condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable in a civilized society.” He commended the Edo State Government for taking swift action, including suspending an illegal vigilante group and its commander.
“The perpetrators must be brought to justice. Such acts set us back as a nation, and we must ensure that they do not happen again,” he asserted.
Improved Security and Stakeholder Engagement Bala also acknowledged progress in national security, attributing it to increased collaboration among stakeholders. He stressed the need for continued efforts in maintaining peace and protecting places of worship.
“Security is everyone’s business. The progress we’ve seen is due to collective efforts by stakeholders, government actors, and security agencies. We must sustain this momentum for a safer society,” he said.
Message to the Youth: Patience and Engagement Responding to growing youth agitation and their ongoing “30-day challenge” against government inefficiencies, Bala urged young Nigerians to be patient, proactive, and constructive in their engagement with the government.
“Youths are the backbone of society, and the government needs to do more in engaging them,” he stated. “However, I urge the youth to be patient, pray for the nation, and contribute positively. Governance is not just about those in power; every citizen has a role to play in national development.”
As Nigerians mark the Sallah celebration, Bala’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of unity, patience, and active participation in governance for the collective progress of the nation.
