Former Nigerian lawmaker and one-time Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi, has passed away at the age of 68.
According to reports by SaharaReporters, the former senator died on Friday. His death was confirmed by the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
In a condolence message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described Nwaoboshi as a proud son of Delta State and a courageous advocate of the Anioma cause. He noted that the late senator’s contributions to nation-building and the political development of the state would remain enduring.
The governor said Nwaoboshi served the people with dedication and commitment during his years in public office.
Senator Nwaoboshi was a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and represented Delta North in the National Assembly. He also served twice as Chairman of the PDP in Delta State, where he played a significant role in strengthening the party’s structure.
His death was also confirmed by the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo.
In a post on his Facebook page, Akpowowo described the late senator as a leader, mentor, and friend.
“I just lost my senior brother, boss, leader, and friend, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi,” he wrote.
Akpowowo added that he mourned with the Nwaoboshi family, the Ibusa community, Oshimili North Local Government Area, and the entire Delta State, praying that God grants the late senator eternal rest.
