FIFA has confirmed that a total of $727 million will be paid as prize money at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the highest payout in the tournament’s history.
According to the world football governing body, the 48 participating nations will share $655 million based on performance, while additional funds will cover participation and preparation costs.
The eventual champions of the tournament will receive $50 million, the largest prize ever awarded to a World Cup winner. The runners-up will earn $33 million, while the third- and fourth-placed teams will receive $29 million and $27 million, respectively.
Teams finishing between fifth and eighth place will be paid $19 million each. Countries eliminated at the round of 16 stage will receive $15 million, while teams knocked out in the group stage will earn $9 million.
In addition, FIFA disclosed that every qualified team will receive $1.5 million as reimbursement to cover preparation and logistics costs.
The 2026 World Cup, to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will be the first edition to feature 48 teams, expanding both competition and financial rewards.
