FG Issues 5-Day Flood Warning for 19 States, 76 Locations

The Federal Government has issued a five-day flood warning across 19 states and 76 locations, citing forecasts of heavy rainfall capable of triggering flash floods and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.

The alert, announced on Tuesday by the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment, covers the period from August 5 to August 9, 2025.

The affected states include Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Cross River, Nasarawa, Benue, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Jigawa, Yobe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Borno, and Gombe.

According to the advisory, residents, local authorities, and emergency stakeholders in the listed areas are urged to take immediate precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of potential flooding, including clearing drainage channels and avoiding waterlogged zones.

Some of the high-risk areas identified include Eket, Abakaliki, Keffi, Gboko, Zaria, Daura, Birnin-Kebbi, Kano, Mangu, Hadejia, Potiskum, Anka, and Sokoto, among others.

The Environment Ministry emphasized that this early warning is based on real-time data and is part of ongoing efforts to reduce flood-related disasters across Nigeria during the peak of the rainy season.
