FG Declares March 19, 20 Public Holidays for Eid al-Fitr

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which signifies the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the government and congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting period.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Muslims to continue practising the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasized during Ramadan.

Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity.

He further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged during the Eid celebration.

The statement added that the Federal Government remains committed to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
