The Federal Ministry of Health has directed the immediate removal of all directors who have served eight years or longer in the directorate cadre across the ministry, federal hospitals, and affiliated agencies. The directive was confirmed in a memo obtained in Abuja on Tuesday.

The move follows an earlier government-wide policy enforcing an eight-year tenure limit for directors and permanent secretaries in all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), in line with a fresh deadline issued by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The memo, signed by Tetshoma Dafeta of the Office of the Permanent Secretary, reiterated that directors who reached eight years in rank as of December 31, 2025, must be disengaged immediately. It also instructed agency heads to ensure proper handover of official documents and government property, stop salaries through the IPPIS system, and recover any emoluments paid beyond the effective disengagement date.

Officials were further instructed to submit a nominal roll of all directorate officers to designated email addresses for monitoring, with the ministry warning that failure to comply would attract strict sanctions.

The directive emphasizes the government’s commitment to enforcing the Revised Public Service Rules 2021 (PSR 020909) and ensuring turnover in leadership positions within the federal public service.
