Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, received the body of Barinada Mpigi, Senator representing Rivers South-East, on Monday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Minister, who arrived at the airport around 5:30 a.m., was joined by prominent figures, including the late senator’s wife, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, their children, the factional PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Senators Philip Aduda, Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu, House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, Rivers State coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors Ambassador Desmond Akawor, and APC National Vice Chairman (South-South) Victor Giadom, among others.
Senator Mpigi passed away in London on Thursday, 19 February 2026, at the age of 64. Prior to the repatriation, Minister Wike had traveled to London to console the family and oversee arrangements for returning the senator’s remains to Nigeria.
