Nigerian TikToker Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, has denied allegations that his recent visit to the Benin Kingdom was unauthorised, following criticism from the Benin Traditional Council.

The council had earlier condemned the visit, describing it as a breach of palace protocol, and summoned the content creator to appear before a committee of chiefs. It also warned that a palace queen who reportedly received him could face removal.

However, in a statement shared via Instagram on Thursday, Peller’s management insisted that the visit followed due process and was not intended to disrespect the traditions of the Benin Kingdom.

According to the statement, the influencer’s team formally submitted a request letter to the palace on February 23, seeking approval for a courtesy visit initially scheduled for March 3 and later moved to March 6.

The management noted that the palace acknowledged the request but informed the team that the Oba of Benin would not be available at the time.

Despite this, arrangements were reportedly made for Peller to be received by palace representatives, including chiefs, and to be guided through the palace while learning about its history and cultural heritage.

The statement further explained that any actions or mispronunciations during the visit that may have been perceived as inappropriate were unintentional.

“Peller is deeply passionate about promoting Nigerian culture, and it would never be his intention to disrespect the very heritage he is committed to showcasing,” the statement read.

The management also issued an apology for any misunderstandings arising from the visit, reaffirming the TikToker’s respect for the Benin Kingdom and appreciation for the feedback received.
