The spokesperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dele Oyewale, has condemned internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo boys, describing them as major contributors to Nigeria’s economic woes.
Oyewale made the remark while addressing journalists after an event, stressing the need for Nigerians to understand the scale of damage caused by cybercriminal activities.
According to him, “The present reality today in this country is that the so-called internet fraudsters or Yahoo boys are wreaking more havoc on the economy than any other set of people.”
He added that tackling corruption requires collective responsibility, noting that the fight cannot be left to government agencies alone.
“For us to come out of this perception, we need to realise that the anti-corruption fight is a broad-based fight,” he said.
