The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned a bank draft of ₦42,500,000 to Mrs. Margret Taye Odofin, a 70-year-old widow and retiree, following the recovery of funds misappropriated from her account.
The recovered money had been siphoned by Mrs. Kehinde Olawale Yusuf, an investment officer at a new-generation bank, who allegedly lured Odofin into a fraudulent investment scheme. The handover took place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, with Acting Director Bawa Kaltungo representing the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
According to Odofin’s petition to the EFCC in December 2024, Yusuf, acting as her account and investment officer, persuaded her to invest in a purported Ponzi scheme between November and December 2020, promising quarterly returns of ₦1,700,000. However, Odofin later discovered that ₦47 million had been diverted from her account to multiple bank accounts without her consent.
Yusuf reportedly cut off communication and fled to the United Kingdom after Odofin made inquiries about the transactions. Despite her escape, the EFCC successfully traced and recovered the misappropriated funds.
Odofin expressed overwhelming gratitude to the EFCC and its Chairman, Olukoyede, for the recovery, describing the development as a “relief and a vindication” of her trust in the Commission.
