The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former Sokoto State governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, in Abuja over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals totaling N189 billion.
Sources said the former governor was interrogated while in custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The development follows accusations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the EFCC is conducting selective investigations targeting opposition politicians.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that recent EFCC summons issued to senior members of the opposition coalition were politically motivated and tied to their affiliations. The party also claimed that some of the cases being pursued were not based on fresh evidence but involved reopening old files.
