Former Nigerian senator, Dino Melaye, has come under heavy criticism on social media after stating that corrupt Nigerian leaders deserve to be jailed for the condition in which they left the country.
Melaye shared a video of himself riding in a luxury car through a scenic location abroad and used the moment to comment on Nigeria’s governance challenges.
In the caption accompanying the video, he wrote, “See country. God help us to build a true nation where our wicked leaders will be in jail and the right people in power. Nigeria must be fixed. YES WE CAN.”
However, the post quickly sparked backlash, with many Nigerians accusing Melaye of hypocrisy. Several social media users reminded him of his time in public office, insisting that he is among the political leaders responsible for Nigeria’s current challenges.
Critics flooded the comment section, arguing that Melaye himself should be held accountable for the country’s state, while others questioned the sincerity of his remarks given his political history.
