The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Jessica Anthony, for allegedly recruiting suspected robbers to stage an attack on her boyfriend of two years.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the suspect and the victim had been in an on-and-off relationship and reportedly reunited, remaining intimate as recently as December 2025.

Edafe said investigations revealed that the woman, allegedly motivated by financial gain, conspired with a friend to arrange a robbery against her boyfriend. According to him, the suspect approached individuals at a known black spot in Warri in search of criminals to carry out the act.

“She, in connivance with her friend, went to one of the black spots in Warri to look for bad guys and asked them to help her rob her boyfriend,” Edafe said.

Unknown to her, the person she contacted was a community leader who collaborates with the police to flush out criminal elements. After requesting the boyfriend’s photograph and recognizing him, the community leader immediately alerted the victim, who agreed to cooperate with the plan to expose the suspects.

Edafe explained that the supposed robbers demanded N65,000 from the woman and her friend, identified as Ada, to purchase tools for the operation, a request they allegedly met. The suspects were then led to the boyfriend’s residence, where the house was pointed out to them.

However, as they exited the estate, the boyfriend alerted security personnel, leading to the arrest of all those involved.

During interrogation, the woman reportedly confessed that she staged the robbery in order to extort N7 million from her boyfriend, claiming she needed the money to pay her sister’s medical bills. She also allegedly admitted that her boyfriend owned gold jewellery she believed could be sold for significant returns.

The boyfriend, according to the police, stated that he owns two gold jewellery items valued at N4.2 million and N8.9 million respectively.

Investigations are ongoing.
