Jos, Plateau State — Sunday, December 7, 2025.
The Plateau State Coalition for Progressive APC has once again appealed to Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a visionary leader whose administrative track record would significantly strengthen the party’s political and developmental influence in the state.

The call was reiterated during a media parley held at Sharna Hotel in Jos, chaired by the leader of the coalition, Hon. Abdulrahman Aliyu.

Hon. Aliyu stated that the coalition “earnestly yearns” for Governor Mutfwang and key members of his political machinery to join the APC, citing the governor’s performance in governance, people-centered reforms, and sustained commitment to peace and security in Plateau State.

“Governor Mutfwang’s alignment with the APC will represent a major political breakthrough for the party and its numerous supporters,” Aliyu said, noting that the executive arm remains the most influential institution in state politics.

He added that the governor’s defection could unlock broader federal opportunities for Plateau State and strengthen strategic partnerships beneficial to local development, particularly in Jos North, which he said has faced longstanding political marginalization despite its loyalty to the APC.

The coalition acknowledged that discussions surrounding Mutfwang’s potential move to the APC have generated mixed reactions. Plateau APC Chairman recently commented that while any prospective defection must follow due process, including consultations with party leaders, politics ultimately thrives on dialogue, negotiation, and understanding.

According to the coalition, earlier concerns over the governor’s communication with the APC national leadership have since improved following reported contact with APC National Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Speakers at the event also referenced Governor Mutfwang’s earlier remarks emphasizing collaboration over rivalry.

Quoting the governor directly, they noted:

“The position I am occupying and the position Professor Nentawe is occupying is not one versus the other. We can hold hands to make Plateau greater. There are doors I will enter that he will not, and there are doors he will enter that I will not. If we all go in with the mindset of bringing something home, it is for the good of Plateau and its people.”

The coalition held up this statement as evidence of the governor’s openness to unity and collective progress.

Speakers used the platform to caution political supporters, especially on social media, against fueling division. They emphasized that in Plateau politics, relationships should not be sacrificed on the “altar of partisanship,” and that political realignments should not be met with hostility.

“The internet never forgets,” one of the speakers warned, urging supporters to maintain respectful conduct as political interests and alliances shift.

Coalition’s Recommendations

To ensure a smooth and mutually beneficial transition—should the governor choose to defect—the coalition outlined several recommendations:

  1. Structured, high-level consultations between state and national APC leadership.
  2. Negotiated political give-and-take to protect party structures and harmonize interests.
  3. Alignment of state priorities, focusing on shared development objectives.
  4. A joint communication strategy to prevent misinformation.
  5. Creation of integration committees to guide formal entry processes and ensure fairness.

The coalition said these measures would support peace, unity, and stability across Plateau State.

Other APC stalwarts, including Hon. Awal Isa Uba, Hon. Suleiman Saidu Buji, and Hon. Rahama, also echoed the coalition’s sentiments, urging Governor Mutfwang to bring his leadership capacity into the party as part of a new era of political cohesion and sustainable development in Plateau State.
