The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has started processing outstanding allowances owed to Super Eagles players and officials from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The payments, which cover win bonuses from Nigeria’s four matches in the tournament, are being transferred directly from the CBN to the individual bank accounts of players and officials, following days of tension in the camp over delayed payments.

The development was confirmed by journalist Tobi Adepoju (Oganla Media), who spoke with a senior NFF official in Morocco. He tweeted: “The monies have been processed from CBN to individual banks. The players and officials will receive all their bonuses when the process is completed.”

The confirmation comes after reports that the squad had threatened to boycott their AFCON 2025 quarter-final match against Algeria if the allowances were not paid. BBC journalist Oluwashina Okeleji had reported that unpaid bonuses had pushed the team to the brink of industrial action, with players refusing to train or travel to Marrakech until the matter was resolved.

On the field, Nigeria has enjoyed a flawless campaign so far. The Super Eagles opened their group with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania, followed by a 3-2 win against Tunisia and a 3-1 success over Uganda, before a commanding 4-0 triumph against Mozambique in the round of 16.

Under coach Eric Chelle, the team will face Algeria in the AFCON 2025 quarter-final on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Marrakech, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
