The Butura community in Butura Wur, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, has announced plans to host the 2026 edition of the annual NAHWAI Cultural Festival on February 21.
The festival is a major cultural event that celebrates the rich heritage of the Butura people, featuring colourful traditional dances, indigenous music, and exhibitions of local resources. Organisers say the event is designed to promote unity within the community, preserve Butura cultural identity, and boost cultural tourism in the area.

A major highlight of the festival is the showcasing of a historic stone causeway in Butura, believed to be over 2,000 years old and reportedly recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1958. The site is regarded as one of the community’s most significant cultural and historical assets.
Over the years, the NAHWAI Cultural Festival has gained international attention, attracting visitors and participants from within Nigeria and across the globe. The organisers describe the festival as an opportunity for tourists and culture enthusiasts to experience the unique traditions and lifestyle of the Butura people firsthand.

Community leaders have invited the public to attend the 2026 celebration, describing it as a platform for cultural exchange and sustainable tourism development in Plateau State.
