Tension gripped the main entrance of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, on Tuesday after several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a speeding passenger bus on the Zaria–Katsina road.

A video shared on X by counter-terrorism platform Zagazola Makama captured the incident unfolding in front of the university gate, causing panic among students, motorists, and passersby.

An eyewitness, identified as Musa, told reporters that the bullets fell from a commercial bus traveling toward Katsina.

“We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before people could understand what happened, the vehicle had already disappeared,” Musa said.

He added that some bystanders immediately gathered the scattered ammunition and alerted security personnel stationed nearby.

Another student, who requested anonymity, described the scene as “strange and frightening”, noting that many feared the bullets might have been supplies intended for bandits operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina states.

According to Zagazola Makama, security agents later secured the area and retrieved the ammunition. Authorities are reportedly investigating the source and circumstances of the incident.
