The political scene in Rivers State took a dramatic turn on Thursday as the State House of Assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

During a plenary session chaired by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, formally read the impeachment notice against Governor Fubara. The notice, supported by 26 lawmakers, cited alleged acts of gross misconduct purportedly in violation of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaker Amaewhule confirmed that the notice would be formally served on the governor within the next seven days.

In the same session, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read the impeachment notice against Deputy Governor Oduh, citing similar allegations of gross misconduct.

The developments come amid an ongoing political tussle in Rivers State between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, with tensions escalating within the House of Assembly.
